He had passed away and they were cleaning out the barn at a horse farm in Potomac Maryland. I had been working at the farm site delivering fill material and I spotted them taking it out of the barn, So I asked them what they were going to do with it and if it was for sale. They got back to me a day or two later and said I could buy it for $175. I bought it right then and brought it home. It sat unrestored, but in pretty good original condition, in my garage for roughly 25 years before I decided to restore it around 2005. These were fairly common in Europe, but only a few were imported for sale in the US. This one was purchased new from Allied Motors in Washington DC and when I bought it, it had only 360 original miles. Since I have owned it, I have put a few miles on it, but still it reads under 400 miles. Not bad for a 53 year old bike. It now sits in my living room as shown in this photo, but I take it out at least twice every year and ride it around for an hour, or so. It still starts on the second kick. via bslook1213 http://www.flickr.com/photos/57293605@N07/8276334143/ tagvespaworld | |||
